DTM SUP is the brainchild of Dan Cleary. Dan has been lucky enough to grow up on Sydneys Northern Beaches and has devolped his surfing from these powerful beachbreak and pointbreaks. From his first turn out at his beloved Dee Why Point he has been totaly hooked and surfed almost everyday since. Dan started shaping shortboards in his back yard shed in 1999 from his first board he knew something was up as it actually went quite well and the obsession begun!
Dan began shaping, sanding and laminating anything for others to earn a living. He would watch and learn whenever he could and in the early days learnt a lot from guys like Richard Quiggin of PURE SURFBOARDS and by doing his own shortboard label IELSURFBOARDS. He then went on to form a close relationship with James 'chilli' Cheal of CHILLI SURFBOARDS with whom he worked closely, ghost shaping for chilli for many years where they shaped shortboards for the worlds best riders. Dan also did some ghost shaping for Rusty and made a very good name for himself in the surfboard industry.
Dan discovered stand up paddle boarding through rehab from a bad mounting biking accident and the obsession began again! Since his first SUP ride Dan has been 110% hooked and has given up his shortboard hertitage to go full time stand up. Dan started shaping his own boards due to not being able to find a sup board which surfed like a shortboard and carved the way he wanted. Dan is now shaping some of the lightest ,strongest high performance sup boards on the market and progession is his main focus.
